B&M Waste Pledges Support of Birmingham Charity, Little Hearts Matter

Family-run waste management company, B&M Waste Services has pledged its support for Little Hearts Matter – the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting and empowering anyone affected by the diagnosis of a single ventricle heart condition – or half a working heart.

Supporting families throughout their journey – from initial diagnosis through to treatment and life at home -is the core focus of the charity by offering crucial information and support. They’re equally committed to raising awareness of the condition in children and the challenges faced by their families.

The mission of the charity was especially meaningful to Stephen Lee, a Business Development Manager for B&M Waste Services whose 2 year old son, Harry, was diagnosed before birth with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, meaning he has only half a working heart. Harry had open heart surgery at just 2 days old, a second surgery at 4 months and will require another before the age of 5. Stephen explains, “Little Hearts Matter gave us hope during our darkest days. They are the backbone, voice and driving force for families who undertake this difficult journey into the relatively unknown.” It was Stephen who consequently highlighted Little Hearts Matter to charity-oriented B&M Waste Services and the company was keen to support.

B&M Waste has committed to sponsoring the charity’s quarterly newsletter – a jam-packed mini magazine with information, stories, advice and the latest news from Little Hearts Matter – with a £1000 donation. Stephen Lee and the B&M Waste Sales team in Birmingham are also in training for The Great North Run in September in aid of Little Hearts Matter.

Neil Curtis, Managing Director of B&M Waste Services said: “As soon as Stephen made us aware of Little Hearts Matter, we knew we wanted to offer our support. It’s an incredible charity – the only one of its kind in the UK – and we’re proud to help however we can.”

Ian Carr, Fundraising and Marketing Manager for the Birmingham-based charity stated: “We’re delighted that B&M is supporting Little Hearts Matter this way. As a relatively small, but ambitious charity, we rely heavily on the generosity of individuals and companies like B&M. Our newsletter is our main way of keeping families up to date and in touch with all the work we do here and so having this sponsored by B&M will make a huge difference to the charity as well as the families – like Stephen’s – we support.”
