Leading chemicals manufacturer Christeyns has selected two new charities to support over the coming year, both from the local area. Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield and One in a Million in Bradford will both benefit from the company’s fundraising efforts and community support programme.
One In A Million (OIAM) is a charity that engages predominantly with disadvantaged children and young people, through Sports, the Arts and
Enterprise. Using formal and informal education, their aim is to break the cycles of deprivation, valuing and celebrating each child’s uniqueness and letting them know they are ‘one in a million’. The charity currently works with 2054 children in the community, with a mission to encourage young people off the streets and into engaging and stimulating activities that develop their skills, understanding and confidence.
“It takes a community to raise a child,” says Craig McHugh, OIAM Charity Executive. “At OIAM we are a family of people that have created a vibrant community culture and each person is deeply committed to playing their part in changing the negative statistics of the lives of children and young people. We are delighted that Christeyns has joined our community and look forward to working closely with them over the coming year.”
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice provides care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families across West Yorkshire. Giving support from as early as pregnancy onwards, the state-of-the-art hospice offers respite, hydrotherapy, music therapy, counselling and bereavement support. The charity also runs a “Hospice at Home’ outreach service that offers a range of services including clinical care for the children and even helps with household chores.
Zoe Bray, Corporate Fundraiser at Forget Me Not comments: “We’re delighted and hugely grateful to have been chosen by Christeyns as one of their charities for 2018. Their support will make a big difference to the children and families we support and enable us to help even more living locally. From everyone at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, a massive thank you for helping share the magic of yes!”
The community is at the heart of everything Christeyns do and all employees are encouraged to get involved in its support of local CSR initiatives and charitable events. Over the past two years, Christeyns has raised over £11,500 for its chosen charities, carrying out a variety of events such as breakfasts, BBQs, Coffee Mornings and Bake Offs and donating many hours of community time. Staff members have also competed in the Bradford Dragon Boat Race – the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, as well as taking part in several marathons across the county.
The firm has been recognized for its continued work in the community, winning the Environment category at The ‘Raising the Bar’ awards, run by West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce for three years running. Christeyns also holds the Investors in People Silver Award.
Christeyns will continue to support its other charities, MacMillan and the Anchor Project.
