The Permaculture Association is an enterprising and ambitious charitable company that has been growing substantially over the last 4-5 years. We now employ 17 part-time staff in Leeds and remotely. We have three key areas of activity – Charitable Trading, Grant Funded and Member Led – and all of them are growing. We have a healthy balance sheet. In the last financial year our turnover was just under £550,000, and since we are registered in Scotland with OSCR, we needed to do a full audit. We passed this with flying colours. But money is tight and we are still too small to afford a regular finance manager.
Our day to day bookkeeping is in very good order. However, due to some large European and US grants we are now having to manage three currencies, which on top of a growing number of grant funded projects and a series of enterprises, adds up to a complex financial picture. We think we need:
* Support to learn the new skills needed to analyse and understand our financial position each quarter.
* Help to design reports and dashboards that can be shared with staff and the Board.
* About 1 day a quarter to help us analyse and understand our financial position so that we can be more ambitious in our enterprise activity, without compromising the stability of the organisation.
