A York charity is challenging local people to take on an Apprentice-style challenge starting this weekend to raise vital funds for them.
The third annual St Leonard’s Hospice Accumulator Challenge begins on Saturday 3rd February 2018 and ends at 11.59pm on Sunday 4th March. Sixteen teams have signed up already, with last minute entries coming in this week. The challenge involves teams of up to six people from businesses, schools, colleges, community groups, families and friends, and more.
Teams signed up so far are the York Marriott Hotel, Tesco Askham Bar, York College Business Students, Best Western HQ, Rosti Automotives Ltd, Make it York, Royal Bank of Scotland (York), Benenden, the Facilities Management Team from Vanguard Retail Park, DoubleTree by Hilton (York), Ben Fry from Minster FM, Jack and Jill’s Nursery, Account Solutions (York),One Stop (Heslington Road), the Grand old Uke of York ukulele band and a group of genealogy volunteers in connection with City of York Council.
Each team has been given a loan of £30 and will then have 30 days to use the money to raise as much additional cash as they can, with all proceeds going to the Hospice. Teams can raise money in any way they choose, as long as it’s safe and legal. The more creative the ideas the better!
There will be an awards ceremony on Monday 26th March at the Marriott Hotel on Tadcaster Road to celebrate the success of the teams taking part, with prizes for the team that makes the most profit, the most innovative fundraising idea and the best overall performance of an individual team member.
Annie Keogh, corporate fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice, says, “Not only is the challenge a great way to raise money for a great cause, it’s a fantastic team building exercise and offers networking opportunities with other like-minded people from the area. It also provides a stage for business-minded individuals and teams to show off their skills. You can sign up for the challenge at any time, but the sooner the better to make the most of the 30 days!”
The challenge raised over £25,000 for the Hospice last year. Best Western HQ in York was one of the teams that took part last year and they are looking forward to trying to beat last year’s impressive figure as Gail Heafield explains:
“The Best Western Team took on the St Leonards ‘Accumulator Challenge’ last year and successfully generated a whopping £2250 from an initial pot of £30 in just 30 days! Not only did the amazing charity benefit, the team arranged 12 events within the business, from bingo to darts, hot chocolates to toasties and car washing to back waxing! It changed a dull start to the year into a fun February companywide and really felt like it brought a ‘community vibe’ into the office. We look forward to getting started this year!”
