Business volunteers from Arup, DLA Piper, Calbee, RBS and Transpennine Express were among the professionals giving Leeds East Academy’s students their first taste of a real interview last week.
120 Year students spent the day practicing their interview skills with each student taking part in a one-to-one session with a role model from the business world. Questions were focused around their future ambitions and how their skills might make them invaluable to employers.
Students were then given feedback by the volunteers before being able to take away their own personal feedback notes to ensure future success.
Volunteer Christina Lovelock from the University of Leeds said of the experience: “This week I have had some of the best interviews I’ve done in the last few years. The Year 10 students were happy to be there, engaged in the interviews, able to maintain eye contact, passionate and articulate and asking lots of great questions! Huge thanks to Ahead Partnership for asking me to get involved with this motivating and inspiring activity.”
