Career Academies UK is a national charity that links schools and colleges with employers to help prepare young people for the world of work, giving them the confidence and opportunity to engage with employees in a work setting.
Career Academies provide: a structured programme of internships, mentoring by employer volunteers, masterclasses, and workplace visits that give 16-19 year olds the work experience and skills they need to be able to perform more effectively in the wider world.
There are currently around 180 Career Academies running in schools and colleges in the UK.
Career Academies UK is looking to increase its network of businesses in Bradford and recruit Local Advisory Board Members at Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College and Oasis Academy Lister Park.
Members are expected to attend four meetings a year which are focused around steering the Career Academies, championing and raising the profile of Career Academies, and helping to agree the curriculum to ensure that it is relevant to the skills required in the workplace. Local Advisory Board Members are the link between business and education, helping to keep what is taught in the academies relevant and up-to-date with business and economic needs.
Career Academies UK also commissioned research into the benefits of working with young people. The key findings are listed below:
- Staff development
- Future recruitment
- Engaging with a hard to reach demographic
