Citizens Advice York (CAY) is a very important organisation, never more so than at the moment. It provides advice and support in York to over 5000 people a year helping them with some 13,000 different problems. We help clients access benefits and services on topics such as welfare and housing benefits, employment, debt, energy costs and relationships.
We’re run by a small professional team, including a Finance Manager, working alongside and supporting around 50 volunteers to provide advice at the City Council offices in York, at various outreach venues in the City, by Webchat and on the phone.
Citizens Advice York is a member of the national Citizens Advice organisation. It is, though, an independent local charity at the heart of our community, entirely funded by grants, donations and fees for contracted services.
There is a small trustee board with responsibility for the overall direction, strategy and performance of the Charity. It’s stimulating, responsible work with an experienced and capable group. The Board normally meets six times a year. There are also occasional committee, strategy and other meetings, including with staff and volunteers.
There is a vacancy for a qualified and experienced accountant to join the board as a volunteer trustee and Treasurer. It’s an interesting and very worthwhile role someone with this background who’s looking to broaden their horizons and contribute to the community.
We are keen to have a diverse board that reflects the local community in York and we welcome applications from all members of the community from different backgrounds – men and women, people of all ages, sexual orientations, nationalities, religions and beliefs. We welcome applications from disabled and BAME candidates.
If you are interested in the role please see the Trustee and Treasurer Role Descriptions, an application form and more information about CAY on our website https://www.citizensadviceyork.org.uk/job-vacancies-2/
If you’d like to find out more about this opportunity please contact the Chair of Trustees, John Short, via email to the Clerk to Trustees at firstname.lastname@example.org
