36% of 11 year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school unable to read at the expected standard. With Covid school closures, struggling readers have fallen even further behind. TutorMate volunteers will help them catch up.
How TutorMate works
- For the whole academic year, corporate volunteers are paired with 6 year old pupils who need additional reading support.
- The pair enjoy a weekly 30 minute reading session online via the secure, bespoke TutorMate platform.
- All our fun, engaging stories and literacy activities focus on fluency, comprehension and expanding vocabulary.
TutorMate offers a great virtual volunteering opportunity for busy professionals who want to make a direct impact on the lives of disadvantaged children.bulary.
How do organisations get started?
Form a Team – Volunteer teams are a minimum of 10 per organisation.
Commit to a financial contribution – Corporate partners are asked to contribute £3000 per classroom/team of 10 tutors. This covers the cost of classroom equipment, support, enhanced DBS checks and training.
Nominate an Organisation Co-ordinator – to lead tutor recruitment and encourage tutors to register, access training and complete their enhanced DBS checks.
