TutorMate – virtual volunteering to help Bradford children learn to read!

TutorMate pairs disadvantaged, struggling 6 year old readers with reading volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child from their own workplace using a bespoke online platform. TutorMate is the perfect volunteering opportunity for those who want to make a direct impact, but find it hard to leave busy offices.

This brief video (tiny.cc/tutormateuk_corp) gives great perspectives from businesses and schools who are currently involved. We (with Bradford accountants Naylor Wintersgill) were also featured recently on the BBC News website and BBC Breakfast in March as part of the #WeAreBradford series

TutorMate launched in 22 schools across the country, including 7 in Bradford last autumn, with 400 volunteers supporting over 400 children, and has plans to expand further across the country. Our current 28 UK partners, who contribute volunteers and funding to support the programme, include national and local businesses such as: Naylor Wintersgill, Skipton Building Society, John Lewis, KPMG, Google, Expedia, Mastercard, Rothschild & Co and Salesforce. We are currently seeking enthusiastic West Yorkshire corporate partners to join them this September!
