Another £5,000 donated to York’s Special Care Baby Unit by Register Office

The team at City of York Council’s Register Office has raised another £5,000 for York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity, thanks to the generosity of new parents in the city, which will benefit the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at York Hospital.

Parents registering a birth are offered a folder in which to keep their new baby’s birth certificate. The folders are supplied free to the office so that every penny of the donations for them from the public goes towards supporting SCBU’s work with ill or premature babies.

Amanda Sykes, York Register Office Manager said:

“We are thrilled that through the generosity of everyone that’s donated and supported us, over the last 11 years we’ve raised more than £43,000 for the Special Care Baby Unit. Their work is so incredibly important and we are delighted to help support the work they do with ill and premature babies across the city.”

Sarah Ayre, Associate Director of Midwifery at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We are always incredibly grateful for any donations that help support the vital work we’re able to do with our families during what can be a very challenging time. To have the support of the team at the Register Office for such a long time is really appreciated and their donations have helped provide essential equipment that has already helped many families.”

Councillor Keith Aspden, Leader of the Council, said:

“These donations have already made a huge difference to the families in York who are going through what can be an incredibly challenging and stressful time. It’s wonderful to see how generous people have been and the team at the Register Office have done an incredible job of collecting such a large amount over the last 11 years. We’re very happy to still be supporting the essential work of the SCBU.”
