Barratt Developments support the region’s leading autism charity with £1k boost

Local homebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, has made a £1,000 donation to the UK’s leading autism charity to support their work helping autistic people and their families across the region.

The National Autistic Society provides information, advice and also campaigns for a society that works for autistic people. The charity also has an Autism Services Directory which has details of local support groups and services, including ZigZag Leeds which was founded in 2003.

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, pledges to donate £1,000 to a charity across West and South Yorkshire every month as part of its ongoing commitment to support the communities in which it builds. The focus for the Barratt Foundation’s Community Fund continues to be on organisations that improve the quality of life for those living in the area close to the homebuilder’s developments.

There are an estimated 700,000 autistic people in the UK. Autism is a lifelong disability and affects how someone communicates and interacts with the world. Every autistic person has different strengths, skills and passions, and faces varying challenges.  Some autistic people are under or over sensitive to specific sights, sounds, smells and textures. This can be a source of enjoyment or cause discomfort or distress.

Gaby Richardson, Corporate Partnerships Manager at the National Autistic Society said, “We’re so grateful to Barratt Developments for their donation.

“The information, advice and support we offer is absolutely vital to autistic people and their families. We can only do this, and continue our work creating a society that works for autistic people, thanks to generous donations like this. Anyone looking for information about autism or who wants to get involved in our work can do so by visiting autism.org.uk.”

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West added, “We’re extremely passionate about supporting the communities in which we build and our donation to the National Autistic Society is just one way we’re able to do this. The charity offers a fantastic service that provides information, guidance and support to help build a society that is autism friendly, and we hope that our donation makes a positive impact.”
